WM, a two-year-old thoroughbred filly sustained a left forelimb suspensory ligament injury breezing at the track.  Upon initial ultrasound, the injury was found to be a grade 4 severity.  On July 12th, 2018, the attending veterinarian and owners elected to use AniCell Biotech’s AniMotion amnion product as a bioscaffold for wound management of this lesion.

On the right, the ultrasound images at the time of injury compare the normal right suspensory to the damaged left suspensory.  The left front suspensory demonstrates both marked peripheral damage (red arrows), along with diffuse fiber damage throughout the body (blue arrow).

Following an ultrasound recheck at 30 days, the images on the left demonstrate the improvement along the margins of the ligament (red arrows), along with the marked improvement in the fiber density and alignment in the parenchyma (blue arrows).

The damaged ligament was found to have improved to a grade 3.  WM’s exercise program was increased to include Anicell’s Accelerated Rehab Program and turnout in a small paddock.

WM is projected to return to training again in December less than six months after the initial injury.
