Exposed Tendon in Hoof

An 11-year-old Paint mare was rescued after complications from a chronic wirecut destablilized the mare’s hoof, exposing the deep digital flexor tendon.  Dr. Scott Morrison DVM of Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital’s Podiatry Center performed a surgical debridement on January 30, 2020 and placed the mare’s hoof in a Sound Horse Shoe with a removable inspection plate.  He then infused EquusCell AniMotion in an arterial limb profusion on January 31, 2020.  Then on February 28th, 2020, Dr. Morrison used BioScaff to further stabilize the tissue by placing it over the exposed tendon in conjunction with a week of antibiotics.

By March 9th, 2020, the keratinised structure had cornified over the tendon protecting the tendon from further damage.

Dr. Morrison said, “Yes, those exposed tendons on the bottom of the foot are notoriously hard to heal.”  He was please the EquusCell Products had helped to cornify the wound.

First recheck of the wound on February 4th, 2020.

Second recheck on February 9th, 2020.

Tendon cornified over on 3rd recheck on March 9th, 2020.

Final recheck after shoeing on April 7th, 2020.
